Carole Jo Michels' Obituary
Decatur-Carole Jo Michels, 69, of Decatur, passed away Monday, September 30, 2013, in St. Mary’s Hospital.
She was born July 18, 1944, in Decatur, the daughter of Virginia Cox and Sheldon Davis and raised by Harold Cox until he preceded her in death. She attended Stephen Decatur High School. She was previously employed as the assistant manager with Decatur Club retiring after twenty-five years of service. She loved the outdoors and nature. She enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time with family and friends. She loved to laugh and will be missed by many. She married Thomas E. Baldwin in September of 1961. She then married James E. Michels February 14, 1997.
She leaves behind her husband James, sons Thomas E. Baldwin Jr. and wife Laura, Lonnie W. Baldwin and wife Tammy, and Bart M. Baldwin and wife Shelly, stepdaughter Tracy Copelen and husband Trent, stepson Troy Michels and wife Anna, grandchildren Jamie Elizabeth Brown and husband Dustin, Ashley Elizabeth Baldwin, Tyler Wayne Baldwin, Lyndze Marie Baldwin, and Colby Michael Baldwin, step-grandchildren Riley, Liza, and Jaxon Copelen and Brittney Michels, great-grandchildren Hannah Lynn and Daniel Lee Brown, and sisters Mary and Kristie Barnell.
She was preceded in death with her parents, dear grandparents Verna and LeRoy Johnson, brother Michael Cox, sister Linda Cox, and nephew Matthew Cox.
The family would like to give a special thanks to St. Mary’s 6th floor and ICU staff for the excellent care they provided.
Graveside services to celebrate Carole’s life will be 10 a.m. Thursday, October 3, 2013 in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2013 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Family requests casual attire.
