Carrie E. "Betty" Hughes' Obituary
Decatur-Carrie E. “Betty” Hughes, 96, of Decatur, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Betty was born January 16, 1918 in Decatur, Illinois the daughter of Ralph E. and Edna M. (Taylor) Vaughan. She was previously employed as a LPN at Decatur Memorial Hospital retiring after nineteen years of service. She was a member of the Parkway Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, bird watching, music, and playing the piano. Betty married Everett E. Hughes November 2, 1935. He preceded her in death February 11, 1991.
She leaves behind her sons Dick Hughes and companion Molly of Decatur, E G Hughes and wife Cathy of Carbondale, and Jim Hughes and wife Dena of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, daughter Sue Lichtenberger and husband Roger of San Marcos, California, daughter-in-law Ruth Hughes of Carson City, Nevada, eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was reunited in Heaven with her parents, son Don Hughes, one brother, and two sisters.
Graveside services to celebrate Betty’s life will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2014 at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2014 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
