Catherine Mae Atherton's Obituary
Decatur- Catherine Mae Atherton, 91, of Decatur, passed away Monday, March 18, 2013 in St. Mary's Hospital with her loving family by her side.
Catherine was born January 20, 1922, in Westernport, Maryland, the daughter of Otis and Iona (Kerns) Cuppett. In 1943 she married Robert Atherton and proudly served her country during World War II in the Women's Army Corps. Catherine was a loving mother that loved to go out to eat, watch birds, fish, bowl and garden.
She leaves behind her daughters Carol (Chuck) Wagner of Decatur, JoAnn (Ken) Schrader of Decatur; daughter in law Lila Atherton of Phoenix, AZ, daughter in law Kenna Atherton of Washington, IL; 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild and many friends.
In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her husband Robert Atherton and son Robert Allen Atherton, sister Charlotte Simpson; brothers Carlton and Otis Cuppett
Services to celebrate Catherine's life will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2013 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the funeral home. Burial with military honors conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard will be in North Fork Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to American Diabetes Association or Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois.
