Charlene Johnson's Obituary
Charlene Lois Ott Johnson, 85, of Decatur, died at 5:10 pm on April 4th, 2018 at Hickory Point Christian Village.
Charlene was born on November 3rd, 1932 in Decatur, a daughter of Mildred (Hunt) and Robert Ott, Sr. She met William, the love of her life, at Illinois Power Company. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on March 1st. She is survived by her dear husband; son Stephen (Leslie Ross) Johnson; grandson Seth Johnson; sister Phyllis (Lynn) Braden; brother John (Marilyn) Ott. She was preceded by brother Robert Ott; sisters Barbara Milligan and Nancy McKinney; brothers–in-law Herbert Milligan, Don McKinney and Phillip Johnson; sisters-in-law Maureen Johnson and Patricia Ott.
Charlene attended Richland Community College in later years. She was employed at Illinois Power, the Regional Office of Education and Richland, retiring in 1989. She was a life member of the PTA and Lutheran Church Women (LCW). She was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church where she served as choir member, lay assistant, Sunday School Superintendent, president of LCW, Congregational Council member and was the first woman president of the council. She loved her family, church and friends.
Memorial services to celebrate Charlene’s life will be held on Saturday, April 21st, 2018 at First Lutheran Church, 250 West Decatur Street at 10 am with Pastor Rita Augsburger officiating. A private family inurnment will be at Graceland/Fairlawn Cemetery in Decatur. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church or Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois.
