Charles N. Bainbridge's Obituary
Decatur-Charles N. Bainbridge, 84, of Decatur, passed away Friday, February 21, 2014 in his home.
Charles was born September 27, 1929 in Lombard, Illinois, the son of Charles N. and Lillian (Schwab) Bainbridge Sr. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1952-1955 aboard the USS Wiltsie.
He married Mary Sue Mann September 1, 1953 in Carmi, Illinois. She preceded him in death December 20, 2007.
He was a 1952 graduate of the University of Illinois, College of Engineering. Charles and Mary moved to Decatur in 1955 when he began his engineering career at Warren and Van Praag. He was a founding partner of the Decatur engineering firm Bainbridge, Gee, Milanski & Associates in 1974. He retired from BGM in 1999.
He leaves behind his children David Bainbridge and wife Mary of Hobart, Wisconsin, Steve Bainbridge and wife Jeannie of Decatur, and Ann Blackman and husband Randy of Urbana, grandchildren Joseph Bainbridge, Jessica Bainbridge, Bradley Bainbridge and wife Judy, Ryan Blackman, Rebecca (Blackman) Stone and husband Evan, and Adam Blackman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister Katherine Stephens, and son Michael Bainbridge.
Private family services will be held. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Decatur Macon County Animal Shelter Foundation, the Salvation Army, or donor’s choice.
