Charles "Chuck" Beams' Obituary
Charles “Chuck” Beams, 89, of Decatur went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 6, 2017 in his home.
A faithful and loving husband, father, and grandfather, Chuck was born on October 26, 1927 in Detroit, MI. He grew up Springfield, IL and graduated from Feitshens High School. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He returned to Springfield to marry his wife of 62 years, Emma Lou Richardson in 1950. They raised four children in Decatur where he worked at Illinois Bell for 37 years. He was a lifelong avid golfer and was one of founders of the Illinois Bell Golf league and of the Decatur Bell Credit Union. Chuck and Emma Lou were longtime members of First Baptist Church of Decatur where they both served in numerous aspects of the church.
Surviving are his daughter, Cathie Beams Mussatto and son in-law James Mussatto of Leawood, KS; daughter, Cynthia Beams Perez and son in-law Peter Perez of Ashville, NC; son, Charles D. Beams of Decatur; son, James E. Beams and daughter in-law Paula Beams of Decatur. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ted and Jessica Mussatto, Pete and Lisa Perez, Colton and Mindy Beams, Sunny and Jim Beams, and Josephine Ruff; sisters, Margaret Pickering and Jessica O’Connor.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Lou; infant son, William Collins; parents, Harry and Jessie Beams; and brothers, Harry, Bob, Danny, and Jack.
The family will host a service to celebrate Chuck’s life at 11 AM Monday, February 13, 2017 in First Baptist Church of Decatur,1320 Arbor Dr. Decatur, IL 62526. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church of Decatur,
