Charles L. "Chuck" Underwood's Obituary
Decatur-Charles L. “Chuck” Underwood, 84, of Decatur, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2013 in his home.
He was born May 1, 1929, in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Walker W. and Belva L. (Burress) Underwood. He proudly served his country in the USAF during the Korean War. He was previously employed with Superior Welding and F.W. Means. He was a member of the APA and enjoyed playing pool and the guitar. He was a great handyman that could fix or build anything. He married Lois Leigh July 4, 1949. He then married Bonnie Marie (Leming) Carter December 26, 1975. She preceded him in death July 3, 2004.
He leaves behind his sons Charles A. “Allen” (Cheri) Underwood of Decatur and Andrew J. “Joe” Underwood of Decatur, daughters Kathy (Ed) Scott of Decatur and Janice (Bud) Hill of Decatur, stepson Michael K. (Debi) Leming of Phoenix, AZ, brothers Terry (Diane) Underwood of Dalton City, Larry Underwood of Bethany, and Wayne “Popeye” Underwood of Findlay, sister Sandra (Dale) Brown of Hawesville, KY, sixteen grandchildren, and twenty-four great-grandchildren.
He was reunited in Heaven with his parents, wife, daughter Jenny Thompson, brothers Don and Harold Underwood, and sisters Lorna Joyce Underwood, Margie Scott, and Doris Peters.
Graveside services with military honors to celebrate Chuck’s life will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Macon County Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home.
