Charles "Marty" Martin Mack's Obituary
Charles “Marty” Martin Mack, 77, passed away on July 26, 2022 at his home in Cerro Gordo, IL.
Marty was born to Frank Cottrell and Ruth Lounsbury on June 26, 1945 in Freehold, NJ. He was lovingly adopted by Mary Louise Riley at the age of 12. He married Carolyn Rose Nailer on July 6, 1986 in Decatur, IL. He loved the ocean and beach. He was an avid bowler (bowled 2 300 games). He loved golf, but his favorite sport was Raquetball.
Marty served in the Navy from 1964 to 1969. He served on the USS Independence in the Vietnam era. While on the USS Independence, he served as a member of the Helicopter Combat Support detachment where he received a letter of commendation. He also received a letter of commendation for successfully participating in a search and rescue operation on Thanksgiving Day in 1964. He received another commendation for combat operations against insurgent communist forces in Southeast Asia.
Marty is survived by his wife, Carolyn Mack; sons, Stephen (Debbie) Mack, Michael (Vicki) Mack, Scott Mack, Gavin (Heather) McKee, Dennis (Melissa) McKee; sister, Carol (Dexter) Lawson, 14 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Marty is preceded in death by his parents and brother, John Warren Mack.
Services will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery at 11:00AM on August 8, 2022. A visitation will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 AM at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home on Monday, August 8, 2022.
