Charles Leland Matherly's Obituary
Charles L. Matherly, 92, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away Monday, March 11, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Charles was born in Monticello, Illinois, on July 29, 1931, the son of William Jackson and Lillie Mae (Meece) Matherly. He married Barbarajean H. Reidelberger on May 3, 1958, in Oak Lawn, Illinois.
Charles was a Korean War veteran, where he drove a tank for the U.S. Army. He retired from ADM. Charles loved camping, country music, and spending time with his family. PaPa especially enjoyed Wyatt’s visits and being at the ballpark watching him play ball.
Charles is survived by his wife; daughters Pam Mounts and Charla Lovelace and son Bill Matherly, all of Decatur; grandchildren Mark Matherly, Michael Mounts, Brit Lovelace, Ashley Lovelace, Jerad Matherly, and Nicholas Matherly; 13 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his 7 sisters and 5 brothers, several nieces and nephews, and son-in-law Andre Lovelace.
Visitation will be from 11am to 1pm on Saturday, March 16, at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. Graveside service with military honors will be at 1:30pm at Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
