Charles Wayne Oswald's Obituary
Charles Wayne "Chuck" Oswald, age 85, of Decatur, IL passed away on Monday, June 30, 2025 at his home. Chuck was born on June 14, 1940, in Elkhart, KS to Raymond C. and Mabel Irene (Sloan) Oswald.
He was raised on a farm 7 1/2 miles south of Elkhart during the Filthy Fifties when farming was a demanding and thankless profession. He graduated with a class of 14 from Yarbrough High School, Eva, OK in 1958. Chuck earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Oklahoma State University and was an Army veteran, where he was served in Vietnam as a jeep mechanic. He proudly worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company as a Design Engineer for over 30 years and created many truck parts that were patented. Chuck was a member of Northwest Christian Church for over 25 years and served happily on the property & building committee for many of those years.
He is survived by his daughter M. Diane (John) Engle of Eureka, MO and son Steven W. (Amy) Oswald of Colleyville, TX; his beloved grandchildren John D. Engle of Beavercreek, OH, Andrew J. Oswald of Colleyville, TX, Abigail M. Oswald of Miami, FL, Cassandra D. Engle of Lincoln, NE, and Ethan W. Oswald of Colleyville, TX; and sister M. Ann (Chalmer) Brown of Cheyenne, OK. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, fiancée Marilyn Shull, brother James “Jim” Oswald and former wife & mother of his children, Patricia J. Oswald.
A Celebration of Life will be at 2pm on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Northwest Christian Church, 1306 N Stanley Ave, Decatur, IL. A graveside service will be held in Elkhart, KS.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to Northwest Christian Church, Attn: Property Fund, 1306 Stanley Ave, Decatur, IL 62526.
