Charles Edgar Smith's Obituary
Charles Edgar Smith, 81, of Decatur, IL passed away March 3, 2024, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL.
Chuck was born July 28, 1942, in Decatur, IL, the son of Kenneth J. and Marjorie Mae (Davis) Smith. He was a veteran of the US Air Force serving during the Vietnam War. He married Barbara A Hartwig on June 8, 1975, in Decatur, IL.
Following his military service, he served with Borg Warner for many years. He progressed to manage Kennedy's Market and Food For Less for several years and completed his career as a buyer for Prairie Farms Dairy.
Chuck had attended Elwin United Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, was an Active Booster of the ADM Softball and Decatur Pride Fast Pitch teams, Elks Club and Loyal Order of the Moose.
Surviving are his bonus children, Julie and Doug Wolfe, Wayne and Jaclyn Gonzalez; grandchildren, Travis Wolfe, Hannah Wolfe, Mallory Wolfe, Erica Gonzalez DeShong, Melissa Gonzalez Becker, Jason Gonzalez; great grandchildren, Adelyn, Clair, Ella, Evan, Blake, Nicolas, Samuel, Mateus, Bianca; nephew, Kenny Glen Smith; grand nephew, Michael Smith, cousins, Mae Porter, Jan Schwab, Peg Neeley, Kay Lents, Roger Gray, Pat Chapman, Sherry Early, Bob Shaw, Tim Arndt, Shelley McMillan.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara; and three brothers.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the funeral home.
Entombment will be at Graceland Cemetery, Star of Hope Mausoleum.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers memorials have been suggested to a charity of the donor’s choice.
