Charles H. Tille's Obituary
Decatur-Charles H. “Chuck” Tille, 82, of Decatur, passed away at 2:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009 in his residence with his family by his side.
Graveside services to celebrate Chuck’s life will be at 12:00 noon Friday, April 3, 2009 at Graceland Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Macon County Honor Guard and the U.S. Navy. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home is assisting the family with these arrangements. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Macon County Honor Guard. Chuck was born August 3, 1926 in Decatur the son of Herman and Grace (Cummings) Tille. He married Betsy Rucker on May 26, 1973 in Decatur.
Chuck was a graduate of Millikin University, class of 1950. He had 3 majors – Accounting, Business Administration, and Engineering Administration. He was a recipient of the Murphy, Jenne, and Jones Accounting Award upon graduation – given annually to the top accounting student at the university.
Mr. Tille was a dedicated public servant. He proudly served his country in the Navy during WWII on the USS Bowditch in the Pacific, and was one of only two remaining survivors from that Navy ship at the time of his death. Chuck was a 32nd degree Mason, past Master and Treasurer for Ionic Lodge 312. He served on the American Legion Post 105 board for 25 years, was the Legions financial officer for 23 years, and he was a Shriner for almost 30 years, serving as past Treasurer for a number of years. He spent most of his professional career in public accounting in addition to 14 years at Marvel-Schebler Products, a division of Borg-Warner. Chuck was also a past coach, manager, and league commissioner for South Shores Little League.
He leaves behind his wife Betsy, son; Dr. James E. (Insuk) Tille of Lakewoods, Washington, daughter: Jeanie Carter of Algonquin, Illinois, four stepchildren: Louann Brown of Gillespie, IL, Susan Kush of Mt. Zion, IL, John Mattes of Plano, Texas, and James Mattes of Fayette, North Carolina, sister: Linda McKinght of Santee, California, brother: Bob Tille of Boody, Illinois, 19 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was united in heaven by his mother: Grace A.Tille, father: Herman C. Tille and late wife Alice (Wochner) Tille.
