Decatur-Charles W. 'Bill' White, of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, November 02, 2010 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
A memorial services will be held 3:00 pm Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Central Christian Church, 650 W. William St in Decatur. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home is assisting his family with these arrangements. Memorial contributions may be directed to Central Christian Church. Bill was born September 2, 1920, son of George William and Hazel Colbert White of Decatur, Illinois, he is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Fishman and grandchildren Jamie Rose and Jeffrey, of Boca Raton, FL. His wife, Mary Ann preceded him in death.
Bill graduated from Stephen Decatur High School and Millikin University where he lettered in golf and basketball. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942, and served through December 1945. In 1943 he married Mary Ann Spangler. He joined the A.E. Staley Company as a comptroller in 1946. Then in 1964 joined their Industrial Sales Department and became a sales manager of the Paper Sales Group. Bill retired in 1984. He was chairman of SCORE for ten years, a tax advisor to senior citizens at the Senior Center, a volunteer for Project Read, and a long time blood donor to the American Red Cross. He was a long time former member of the Country Club of Decatur, a member of the Decatur Club and Central Christian Church.
He will be missed every day by his family and many dear friends.
