Charles T. Whittington's Obituary
Decatur -Charles “Chuck” T. Whittington, 59, of Decatur, went home to be with the Lord at 2:55 p.m., Sunday, April 5, 2009, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service in Chuck’s honor will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at God’s Abundant Love Fellowship, 6480 E. Fitzgerald Road.
Services to celebrate Chuck’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 9, 2009 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with Pastor Nick Hardin officiating. Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. Thursday, April 9, 2009 at the funeral home. Interment with military honors conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard and “Flight Home” Ceremony will be in Harristown Cemetery. Chuck was born on January 4, 1950, in Springfield, the son of Gene and Edith (Snow) Whittington. He married Twyla Tackett on September 30, 1972, in Decatur. Chuck proudly served his country in the Army in Vietnam. After serving in Vietnam, Chuck worked at Bridgestone-Firestone as a power truck driver for 29 years. Upon leaving Bridgestone-Firestone, he owned and operated Bestway Enterprises.
Chuck leaves behind his beloved wife Twyla; children Christy (Nate) Schultz of Clinton; Frank (Autumn) Whittington and Joshua Whittington, both of Decatur; Nikki (Ryan) Wiggand of Radcliff, KY; and Amanda Grigg-Whittington of St. Louis. He is also survived by sisters Sandy Whittington of Cleveland, TN; Linda Mathias (Bob Byers) of Harristown; and Vicki (Greg) Hutchins of Mt. Auburn; much-loved grandsons Tristen Whittington and Michael Van Hooser; and many nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters in Christ.
For many years, Chuck and Twyla were foster parents. Chuck’s family believes that in all he did, his greatest achievements were as a husband and father.
He was reunited in heaven with his parents and his friend and father-in-law Dale Tackett Sr.
