Charles Alden Wilson's Obituary
Charles Alden Wilson, 78, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away January 6, 2023 in his home.
Charles was born in Champaign, Illinois on April 24, 1944, the son of Olis and Esther (Harris) Wilson. He worked at Carter’s Furniture in sales and management for 34 years. After Carter’s closed, he earned his CDL license and drove a semi cross-country for 10 years. He was a proud member of the Sons of the America Legion Post 105, where he served as Commander for fifteen years. He was an avid musician who enjoyed singing, playing in bands, and karaoke outings. He enjoyed camping in his spare time. He took great pride in caring for his beautiful yard and flower garden. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather who cherished spending time with his family.
Charles is survived by his wife, Donna Wilson; children: Julie (Tony) Maton of Decatur, IL, Janet (Randy Reid) Manners of Maroa, IL, Nichole (Aaron) Michael of Eastman, GA, and Kristine (Jared) Gambrill of Shelbyville, IL; bonus daughter DeeDee (Hutch) Hutcheson of Kingston, TN; sisters Gardenia Preusse and Betty (Jerry) Wright; grandchildren Jenna (Brandon) Presnell, Tricia (Dalton Cunningham) Maton, Jami (Justin) Bonner, Charles Manners, Trenton Manners, Dena (Stephen) Daniels, Katelyn (Kevin) Zhang, Marne Smith, Abby Smith, Spencer Latham, Travis Latham, Jackson (Marley) Gambrill, and Josie Gambrill; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ruby Wright.
Visitation for Charles will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Tuesday, January 10, at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. A funeral service at the funeral home will be celebrated at 11am on Wednesday, January 11. Entombment in the Star of Hope Mausoleum in Graceland Cemetery will follow the service.
