Charles "Charlie" "Chuck" "Bud" Yates' Obituary
Charles “Charlie” “Chuck” “Bud” Matthew Yates, 83, passed away August 7, 2023 at his residence with his family by his side.
Charlie was born January 16, 1940 in Decatur, IL the son of Charles Elmer and Ella Veronica (Hehir) Yates. He married Lori Harmon on December 21, 1996 in Decatur, IL.
Charlie was a veteran of the US NAVY. Following his military service, he loved his career as a mail carrier with the USPS. He retired after 34 ½ years of service.
Charlie was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He truly treasured being a dad. He was an Illini basketball, Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. He loved Elvis music and would always look forward to savoring a Krekel’s double cheeseburger. Charlie enjoyed playing slow pitch softball and coached girl’s softball teams. He loved Christmas and collected Christmas music boxes. His greatest joys were spending precious time as a Pa Pa with Presley and Piper and his dog Bubba who never left his side.
Surviving are his wife, Lori; children, Matthew A Yates of Decatur, IL, Coleen M Yates of Decatur, IL, Madison L Wierman (Kyle) of Decatur, IL; grandchildren, Presley A Wierman, Piper R Wierman, Sydney M Yates and 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Judith Ann Linnenman.
Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Friday, August 11, 2023 at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 PM Thursday, August 10, 2023 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Please honor Charlie by wearing Illini, Bears or Cubs attire.
