Charlotte English's Obituary
Charlotte Ann English, 81, of Decatur, IL passed away peacefully Thursday, July 4, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur, IL.
Charlotte was born April 7, 1938 in Decatur, IL the daughter of Vernon and Mildred (Peters) Lienhart. She married Henry W. English on November 5, 1966 in Decatur, IL.
Charlotte had served as an administrative clerk for Firestone and then retiring from United Parcel Service. She was a member of Christ Church in Decatur, IL.
Charlotte enjoyed traveling with her husband, Henry. They wintered in Florida and toured Europe, Hawaii, Canada, and Germany. She liked genealogy, loved crosswords and making puzzles. She was an avid Cubs and Illini Basketball fan. More than anything she cherished the memories formed from spending time with her children and grandchildren, and attending many family dinners, cookouts and holidays.
Surviving are her children, Gregory D. Smith (Kathryn) of Decatur, IL, Sheri Penny (JP) of Golden Valley, AZ; grandchildren, Kathryn Smith-Frank (Troy) of Decatur, IL, Brandy Smith of Hammond, IL, Nathan Penny (Lisa) of Hopkinton, IA; great-grandchildren, Audrey Barry (George) of Hammond, IL, Jessica Penny of Long Creek Township, IL, Ian Smith of Decatur, IL, Chloe Smith of Hammond, IL; Lindly and Larry Leischner and boys; Very special nieces and nephews; special friends since High School, Carol Schonert (Dave), long time friend Dav Fishel.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mildred Hickman, husband, Henry; and brother, Thomas Hickman.
Services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, July 11, 2019 at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10 – 11 AM Thursday and the funeral home. Burial will be at Illini Cemetery in Warrensburg, IL.
Memorials: Gift of Hope or American Cancer Society.
Charlotte’s family would like to thank the ICU staff and physicians at St. Mary’s Hospital and special thanks to Dr. Kola, Dr. Bommarito, and Dr. Brandes for their kind, compassionate care of Charlotte.
