Charlotte Lyon's Obituary
Charlotte Elizabeth Lyon, known as "Char" by her friends and family and "Miss Lyon" by her many students, died June 12, 2012 at the age of 81. Char was a graduate of Millikin University and lived in Decatur all of her life. Char was a teacher at South Shores Elementary School and taught for many years before retiring. She loved golf, Cardinal baseball, and traveling in the USA and abroad. After retirement she volunteered in the thrift shop at Decatur Memorial Hospital; and showed shells from her extensive collection to area schools, teaching children about the animals that lived in them. She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Paul B. Lyon, Sr.; brother Paul B. Lyon, Jr.; and sister Marjorie (Lyon) Cunningham. Six Nieces and Nephews and their families survive her. A memorial service will be held at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home on Thursday, July 5th, at 2 p.m. with visitation at 1 p.m. Memorials may be made to Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 650 W. William St., Decatur, IL 62522. Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home is handling the cremation as per Charlotte's request.
