Christine Torry's Obituary
Christine Torry, 62, died on Weds., May 12, 2021 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Chris was born in Decatur on January 30, 1959, to Bill and Glenna Torry. She graduated from
MacArthur High School and worked in several local businesses before going to work for her
parents at the Bourbon Barrel Lounge, now Bourbon Barrel Bar & Grill, co-owned by Chris and
her younger sister, Kim Torry. Chris also was employed by Akorn Pharmaceutical. Over the
years, Chris volunteered extensively in Decatur Public Schools and with Relay for LIfe. She was
a member of The Vineyard Church in Sullivan, where she found a supportive home base for her
faith journey.
Chris had a big heart and she was a born caregiver. Her life’s greatest joy was being a mother
to her daughter, Jennifer, who died in 2019. Chris was devoted to her three grandchildren: Hayli
Fielden of Mt. Pulaski, Donovan Frank of Mt. Pulaski and Gunner Frank of Decatur. Her
grandchildren survive her, along with her sisters Karen Torry and Kim Torry; her ‘adopted’
daughter, Amanda Moran, her fur baby Bruno, her former husband Mike Frank, her Bourbon
Barrel family, and many, many beloved friends from childhood, church, work and other parts of
her life.
Chris faced many challenges in her life, including chronic pain, health issues and the loss of her
daughter, but she worked — through faith and through therapy, she always said — to face life
with honesty and with hope. A few months ago, confronting a life-changing diagnosis, she told
her sister, “I have been so blessed. I have so much to be grateful for.”
May her words guide all of us who loved her as we move forward without her.
Graveside Memorial service will be noon Monday, May 17, 2021 at Graceland Cemetery.
