Clarence E Christy's Obituary
Decatur-Clarence 'Chris' Christy, 78 of Decatur, passed away 7:30 pm Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at his residence with his family at his side.
Services to celebrate Clarence's life will be 2:00 pm Monday, August 30, 2010 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Spruell officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, August 29, 2010 from 5 ' 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment with military rites by the Macon County Honor Guard and concluding with the 'Flight Home' ceremony will be in Graceland Cemetery. Casual dress is requested by the family. Clarence was born on March 8, 1932 in Hillsboro, IL the son of Kessler and Opal (Matthews) Christy. He was a graduate of Hillsboro High School with the class of 1950. He proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1951 ' 1955. Clarence and Thelma King married on October 23, 1955 in Hillsboro. He was employed by Caterpillar in Decatur for 30 years, retiring in 1987as a NCR Programmer. Clarence was a member of the Decatur Pride Softball Booster Club, a past member of the Decatur Moose Club, a member of the Decatur Sports foundation, he was affiliated with the Lutheran Church, an avid league bowler, an avid fisherman, he enjoyed going to the gambling boats, he enjoyed playing cards with his friends he volunteered many hours at the Borg-Warner Sports Complex, and very most of all Clarence loved watching his grandchildren participating in sporting events. Clarence also had a wood working in his garage where he made cabinets, cradles, and other ornate items many of which he gave away to family and friends. To relax Clarence enjoyed working jig-saw puzzles during the winter months.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of nearly 55 years Thelma, his son Ken (wife ' Kim) Christy of Decatur, his daughters Brenda (husband ' Doug) Collier of Decatur and Karen (husband ' Mark) Finch of Decatur; five grandchildren Christy (husband Tim) Lehmkuhl, Autumn Christy, Jacob Collier, Chelsie Finch, and Wade Collier; one great granddaughter Jayla Woodland and a great granddaughter on the way Lydia Lehmkuhl; his sister Viola Pier of Hillsboro, and several nieces and nephews.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Juanita Plunkett. Clarence's family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the 'special angels' of the DMH Hospice for their care.
The kids would like to give a very special loving thank you to our mom. You showed us ultimate love and complete unselfishness in taking care of dad in this difficult time. We love you very much!
