Decatur- Curtis W. Lanter, 85, of Decatur passed away Friday, February 24, 2012 at Heritage Health in Mt. Zion.
A service to celebrate the life of Curtis will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. A visitation for Curtis will be 6-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2012 also at the funeral home. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Church of the Brethern, Decatur, Illinois.
Curtis was born April 23, 1926 in Moultrie County the son of Herbert and Linnie (Hiser) Lanter. Curtis retired from Polar Ice Company and from Decatur Machine and Tool Co. He was a much loved greeter at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home and was a coach driver for Decatur Ambulance. Curtis was a member of the Church of the Brethern in Decatur, Illinois. Some of his passions in life were being a loving husband, father, and grandfather, gardening, square dancing, playing dominos especially Mexican Train, and singing Karaoke. He married Beverly Oakes on June 15, 1946.
He is survived by his wife, sons; Donald (Beverly J) of Assumption, Danny (Karen) of Moweaqua, sisters; Deloris (Lee) Lawson of Bement, and Lois Day of Cerro Gordo, grandchildren; Dawn (Melvin) Adrian, Bradley (Alison) Lanter, Crystal (Matt) Sewell, Lisa Hector, Sarah (Aaron) Rosa, and Jennifer (Pablo) Roche, and eleven great-grandchildren.
Curtis is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one sister.
