Daniel Charles "Danny" Murphy's Obituary
LOVINGTON- Daniel Charles 'Danny' Murphy, 59 of Lovington, passed away unexpectedly at 2:50 am Monday, December 26, 2011, surrounded by his loving family in St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am Thursday, December 29, 2011 in Our Lady of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mt. Zion. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 on Wednesday in the Lovington First Church of God Community Center, Lovington and one hour prior to the service at Our Lady of the Holy Spirit, Mt. Zion. Interment will be in Keller Cemetery, Lovington with Sons of the American Legion Squadron 429 graveside service. Memorials are suggested to the Lovington American Legion Post 429 or to the Lovington Community Ambulance Service. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Danny was born on May 8, 1952 in Decatur a son of Charles W. 'Cob' and Doris Ann (Smith) Murphy. He married Cheryl Marie Smith on July 21, 1978 in Lovington. Danny was retired from Firestone Tire Company after 28 years of service. Danny played softball for over 20 years. He was very patriotic and a member of the Sons of the American Legion Squadron #429 in Lovington and he was very active in Sparrows Unlimited, Lovington and he was an avid Cub and Bears fan.He was an active community member who was always on a mission to help those in need in the community.
Surviving are his wife Cheryl of over 33 years, son- Wyatt Murphy (Tiara Wright) of Lovington, daughters- Meghan (Asif) Azhar of Simpsonville, SC and Mallory Murphy of Lovington, sister- Bev Morgan (Don) of Lovington, brothers- Jim Murphy of Bement, Doug Murphy of Pierson Station and Randy Murphy (Susie) of Sullivan and his grandchildren- Suri Elizabeth Azhar, Teagan Shay Cassidy Murphy and Walker Baggiani, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends and his grand puppy- Ella Bella.
He was greeted in Heaven by his parents and host of friends.
Everyone has so many stories and memories about Danny. He will live on in the hearts of his family and many friends.
