Darlene Jean Davis' Obituary
Decatur-Darlene Jean Davis, 76, of Decatur, formerly of Melbourne, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2014 in Decatur, Illinois, with her loving husband and children by her side.
Darlene was born December 16, 1937 in Decatur, Illinois, the daughter of Everette and Flossie (Neal) Liston. She was a homemaker and active member of the Ruthie Mountain Volunteer Fire Department in Mt. Olive, Arkansas. Darlene was a member of New Hope Interdenominational Church in Calico Rock, Arkansas, where she enjoyed singing. She dearly loved her church family.
Darlene loved her family and friends unconditionally, with warmth and energy. Her role as Mom or “Mammy” reached far beyond her own children and touched many young lives. She was an amazing cook and her homemade noodles became her trademark. Young children always smiled and laughed as they helped her prepare their favorite animal-shaped pancakes. Darlene loved fishing, dancing, angels, and butterflies. Her smile and laughter brightened any occasion and they will be greatly missed.
Darlene married her soul mate and the love of her life Lawrence Davis April 26, 1980 in Decatur.
Darlene leaves behind her husband Lawrence of Decatur, sons Michael (Rose) Eckart of Calico Rock, Arkansas, David (Connie Poland) Eckart of Warrensburg, Mark (Marian) Eckart of Decatur, Charlie (Becky) Davis of Decatur, Donnie Davis of Decatur, and Stanley (Cassie) Davis of Decatur, daughters Donna (Randall Scott Crisman) Harris of Decatur, Tina (Terry) Parrish of Decatur, and Sonnie Davis of Decatur, special niece Peaches, thirty-nine grandchildren, sixty-six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Darlene was reunited in Heaven with her parents, son Donald Stanley “Huck” Eckart, daughter Mary Ann Eckart Sheets, brother Everette “Sonny” Liston, sister Lois Denney, and grandson Donnie Eckart.
The family of Darlene Davis would like to extend a special thank you to the DMH ER Nurse Junette Kennedy and ICU Nurse Paula Snyder for their exceptional care and compassion. Also a special thanks to the doctors and staff at the Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois.
Services to celebrate Darlene’s life will be 10 a.m. Monday, November 3, 2014 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, November 2, 2014 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Decatur. Memorials are suggested to the wishes of the family in c/o Lawrence Davis.
