Darlene Hinton's Obituary
Decatur-Darlene Hinton, 83, of Decatur, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016 in Decatur Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.
Darlene was born November 23, 1932 in Decatur, Illinois, the daughter of Harold and Ethel (Nowlin) Hoots. She graduated in 1950 from Decatur High School. Darlene retired from Illinois Bell Telephone of Decatur and Champaign. She was a member of South Shores Christian Church, Telephone Pioneers, and the Kiwaniannes and volunteered at the McKinley Court Gift Shop and the North East Food Bank. Darlene married Melvin Hinton March 20, 1953. He preceded her in death December 9, 2003.
Surviving are her children Linda (Jerry) Armstrong of Champaign and son Larry Hinton of Roanoke, Virginia, grandchildren Chad Hinton, Larry LaRoux, and Autumn (Jeremy) Stanton, many loving great-grandchildren, and her precious dog Buffy.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter, and sister Norma Eaton.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Darlene’s friends at the Reserve and the nurses and staff at DMH.
Services to celebrate Darlene’s life will be a 1:30 PM Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Kiwanianne Scholarship Fund. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
