David C. Barr's Obituary
David C. “Dave” Barr, 72, of Decatur, IL, passed away at 6:57 P.M. on Tuesday (03-11-2025) with his family by his side.
Dave was born on October 5, 1952, in Santa Barbara, California at the Army base Camp Cook to Robert “Bob” and Jewel (Langley) Barr. He married Gale Lynn Murphey on June 14, 1969, in St. Charles, MO.
Dave was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Decatur, IL.
He started his career at OK’s Transmission and then worked and retired from Caterpillar after many years. He was a great mechanic and tried to help as many people as he could.
Dave enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and was always on the go! He was a 30-year friend of Bill W and was very active in that community. He loved being with family and friends teasing and joking around.
He is survived by his wife Gale of 55 years; children: David C. Barr, Jr, and wife Kris of Terrell, TX and Amy D. Root and husband Jim of Decatur, IL; 9 grandchildren: Jessica, Melanie, Samantha, Alex, Devin, Zach, JD, Lauren and Andrew; 6 great-grandchildren; his mother Jewel of Decatur, IL; brother: John Barr and wife Julie of California; sister: Kaye Barr of Oregan; and brother: Jim Barr and wife Linda of The Villages, FL.
Dave was preceded in death by his father Robert “Bob”.
A Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at 12:00 P.M. Monday (03-17-2025) with visitation from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at the church.
The burial will be at Mt. Gilead Cemetery following the funeral service.
