David D. Barthelemy's Obituary
Decatur-David D. Barthelemy, 87, of Decatur, passed away, Monday, January 19, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
David was born March 17, 1927, in Decatur, the son of Frank A. and Grace E. (Meers) Barthelemy. He proudly served his country as a Sherman tank commander in the U.S. Army during World War II. He owned and operated David Barthelemy Insurance from 1962 until his retirement in 1986. He was an avid golfer well known on the park district courses for many years. David enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family. He especially loved and cherished his grandchildren. He married Lucille Kite April 11, 1948. They shared over sixty-six years together.
David leaves behind his wife Lucille of Decatur, son Mark Barthelemy and wife Vickie of Decatur, grandchildren Sarah Laning and husband Jim of Bloomington, Leslie Gould and husband Kevin of Decatur, and Erin Barthelemy of Bloomington, and great-grandchildren Riley, Jorja, and Pheebee Gould of Decatur and on the way “Baby Laning” of Bloomington.
David was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Ray and Vern Barthelemy.
Memorial visitation to celebrate David’s life will be from 1-2 p.m. Friday, January 23, 2015 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with a private family service to follow. The family requests casual attire. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Holy Family Catholic Church.
