David Charles Coffman's Obituary
David Charles Coffman of Decatur, IL, passed away in the early hours of Sunday August 27, 2017, in his home with his beloved wife by his side. A memorial service is planned to be held at his chosen house of worship—the West Decatur Church of God–on Saturday September 23 at 11:00 am.
to celebrate the life of this incomparable father, brother, and friend.
David was born in Decatur, IL, the son of Herschel and Dorothy Coffman, and was one of six children. Surviving him are his sister Jeanie Coffman of Florida, and his brothers: Jack Coffman of Texas, Tom Coffman of Illinois, Danny Coffman of Florida, and Steve Coffman of Kentucky
He married his sweetheart Frances Lou Roche on July 14, 1961. Over the course of their 56 years together, David and Frances brought five children into the world: Douglas David Coffman (Pam) of Nesbit Mississippi, Julie Ann Ross of Decatur, IL., Jacqueline Kay Dooley (Tom) of Assumption, IL., Michael Stephen Coffman (Debbie) of Heyworth, IL. And Christopher Joseph “C.J.” (Crystal) of Morton, IL. Having raised their children into upstanding adults, David and Frances were further blessed by 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
David loved many sports, of among which he was an avid Cardinals baseball fan and dedicated 49ers football supporter—much to the consternation of family members with disparate team leanings. He was also the family pugilist (boxing) champion and miniature golf maven, and he prided himself on being able to run faster than any of his children ever could. David’s heart held incalculable love for the Lord, his wife Frances, as well as his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His deep compassion would often see him go out of his way to make everyone feel special and loved. We will miss his benign and benevolent mischievousness, but most of all we will miss his smile and generous spirit. Memorials in honor of David may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the West Decatur Church of God.
The family of David Charles Coffman is being served by Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home, 2091 N. Oakland Avenue, Decatur, IL 62526. Send condolences to the family at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
