David Gerald Fitzgibbons' Obituary
LOVINGTON- David Gerald Fitzgibbons, 78 of Lovington, passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 4 PM in The Arthur Home, surrounded by his family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the St. Columcille Catholic Church in Sullivan with Father John Sohm as celebrant. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment with Military Rites will be in Keller Cemetery in Lovington. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. David was born on October 9, 1934 in Lovington a son of Francis M. and Elizabeth Rose (Tucker) Fitzgibbons. In his younger days Dave aspired to be an actor and he always had a love for the arts. He served his country in the Army. Dave farmed in Lovington and Effingham areas. He enjoyed working as a carpenter, teaching his sons the trade and building several homes in the area. He then worked for the Bethany Water Plant and eventually retired from General Telephone and soon returned to carpentry and farm work. He married Marjorie Jean VanDeveer on February 14, 1961 in Sullivan. She preceded him in death on October 2, 2001.
Surviving are his children- Patrick of Gilbert, AZ and Eric and his wife Sherri of Mesa, AZ, Amy and her husband Ted Day of Lovington and Jacqueline Fitzgibbons of Tuscola, sister- Marion Piche and family of the Chicago Area and grandchildren- Andy, Blaine, Loni, Kaleb, Jacob, Jessica, Derrick and Hunter and two great grandchildren'Mallory and Tristan.
He was greeted in Heaven by his parents, wife, and his special four legged companion Scottie. David was able to reunite with his wife on her birthday, and celebrate their anniversary in Heaven.
