David McCoy's Obituary
David Lee McCoy Sr., 85, of Decatur, IL passed away at his daughter’s home in Peoria, IL, and went to his eternal home in heaven on December 29th, 2023.
David was born in Lafayette, IN on June 27th, 1938, the son of Chelsea and Dorothy (Clemmons) McCoy. He married Sue Mulcahey on December 15, 1962; and from that union, created nine beautiful children. David served proudly in the US Army for four years. He later worked several jobs throughout his life to provide for his family. He and his wife, Sue, and their children were members of St. Thomas Catholic Church for 25+ years. David was an avid Cardinals fan and loved to sit home and catch a game with his loving wife. He was also a great Elvis fan and really enjoyed Johnny Cash, Hawaii Five-O and Perry Mason as well. Most of all, he loved and cherished his big family including his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren but nothing compared to the unconditional love he had for his wife of 61 years, Sue.
David is survived by his wife, Sue, children Tammara Whitworth, Helen Gulledge, Connie McCoy, Bonnie Atteberry, David (Teena) McCoy Jr., Thomas (Michelle) McCoy, Chelsea (Jill) McCoy II, Bridget (Michael) Phillips, and Megan (Maria) McCoy; brother John E. (Barbara) McCoy and; sister Jane Hirschinger; 24 grandchildren; and 29 great - grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, nephew Donald McCoy Jr.; brother Donald and his wife Jan McCoy; grandson Tyler McCoy; sister Shirley Suni; son in law Kenneth Whitworth; great-grandaughter Sophia Wilhelm and twin nephews Bryan and Daniel McCoy.
Visitation for David will be from 12pm-1pm on Wednesday, January 3rd, 2024 at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 1pm in the funeral home. Burial in Graceland Cemetary will follow the service. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.gracelandfairlawn.com
