David Lynn Pundt's Obituary
David Lynn Pundt, 69, passed away in his home on January 1, 2023, next to the love of his life, Katherine Pundt.
David was born in Bad Kreuznach, Germany, on February 14, 1953, to Herman Eugene and Johanna Phillippine Pundt. He was an Army brat and lived back and forth from Decatur, Illinois to Worms, Germany, until he settled in the States at the age of 18. But he never lost his love of Germany and his family there, travelling there a handful of times later in life. He went to Taylorville High School for freshman and sophomore years, then graduated from Prince George High, VA.
He was a hard-working man. He worked at a movie theater cleaning up after shows, collecting loose change from seats and floors to buy refreshments, Burger Chef, Taco Via, Burger King, Dairy Queen, and Culvers as manager, Allen Foods, US Foods, and Double D as a semi driver.
He loved his wife, his kids, grandkids, and the Lord. He loved working with and leading classes for his church from toddlers to married adults. He loved playing baseball from childhood until he was in his 60s, as a pitcher of course, even trying out for the San Francisco Giants and Cardinal baseball teams, but ultimately deciding to start a family and stay in Decatur. He loved riding motorcycles and bikes, making and drinking coffee, listening to old records, singing songs, watching old movies, and going on dates with his wife of almost 49 years. They were married March 23, 1974, in a snowstorm, and David said his only regret was not marrying Kathy sooner.
His ministry was to reach people for Christ. He would talk and pray with anyone and everyone, witnessing multiple miracles and many surrendering their lives to Jesus. Even when he was sick at the end of his life, he still would bicycle downtown witnessing to the homeless and fixing old bikes to give away to them, witnessing at the cancer care center as well as nurses and doctors attending him at the hospital.
Surviving: his wife, Katherine Pundt; Dad: Allen Erven; children: Rebecca Wright, Hannah and husband Jeremy Walker; grandchildren: Joscelynn Partee Wright, Jacardia Wright, Zion Joy Walker; special mention: David and Linda Knizia, Brian and Tammy Myers, Adrianna Myers; brothers, Mike Pundt and Phillip Erven; sisters, Amy and Tracey
