David K. Rohde's Obituary
David K. Rohde, Sr., 82, of Decatur, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013 in his home with his family at his side.
David was born January 17, 1931 in St. Rose, IL, the son of Fredrick and Josephine (Wiedner) Rohde. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. David worked as a truck driver for 45 years with Bellm Freight Lines, TMX Transport Motor Express, and ADM Trucking from where he retired in 1996. He also provided a lawn mower repair service for the community for 10 years. David was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and the American Legion. David married Helen M. Poole on June 30k, 1951 in Vanburen, AR.
Surviving is his wife, Helen; children: Rebecca Nearing of Albuquerque, NM, Michael Rohde of San Diego, CA, Steven (Frances) Rohde of Longwood, FL, David (Sharlene) Rohde, Jr, of Kathleen, GA, Thomas Rohde of Decatur, IL, and Luke (Michelle) Rohde of San Diego, CA; thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren; brothers: Robert Rohde of OK, and Daniel Rhode of AR; sisters: Mabel Wheelen of Beckmeyer, IL, and Ethel Smith of Daytona Beach, FL; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sons: Anthony and Joseph; brother, Fred and sister, Esther.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Macon County Coroner Michael Day, and Graceland/Fairlawn Staff, Donnie Sutton and Paul Olson, and Officer Danner of the Decatur Police Department for their excellent care and compassion.
Services to celebrate his life will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Burial with military honors will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Tabernacle Baptist Church Benevolent Fund or the Good Samaritan Inn.
