Judy and I have been friends of David’s for about 20 years. We met at the Avon Theatee at film class and then through the years we gradually grew a relationship that be as close as any family member could be. The times spent at the movies at The Avon, the DQ, Book Barn, The Heart, Decatur Country Club, Decatur Celebration, and Holidays we shared like Birthdays at the Gin Mill, Christmas, and New Years Eve will always be some of the fondest memories we have. David was a good, honest, kind, loving man who always truly cared about you and your life. He was a peaceful man who valued your time together and always made you feel special. I will miss my friend dearly and today’s service was a truly deserved honor of David’s life. The deacon did a great job summing up David and his life and what he meant to others. My life was better for having known David. To the family of Mr & Mrs. Jack Rush, and the friends who we shared lunch with today after the service…Thank You for including Judy & I and making us feel so loved and wanted. I know David would have been so pleased. Anyone we met today who would like to stay in touch Judy & I would be honored to stay in contact with you. We can be reached at 500 W. Jefferson, Effingham, Il. 62401 or at email [email protected] Sincerely Rod Wiethop ps. David you will continue to live on in our hearts.
Mr. Rush and his father use to ride thru the cemetery everyday to visit his wife/mother. They would stop where I was working and talk for a few minutes, when his dad died he carried on the tradition of visiting his parents graves. He was a very interesting gentleman to talk too, my condolences and prayers go out to his family, Rest In Peace Mr Rush
To the family: I worked around David rarely at Caterpillar. When I had the chance to work near him; I found him to be a quiet, pleasant man who loved the opportunity to converse concerning history. I always enjoyed his articles in the H & R concerning Arthur Conan Doyle.
The first time I met Mr. Rush we talked for the longest time. David was the nicest man I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I always looked forward to seeing him and sitting down for a nice chat about history. He was a blessing to everyone he met. My sincerest condolences to the family. David, thank you for the wisdom you gave me. You sir will be truly missed.
David,
The staff at Party Warehouse will miss you greatly. We would look forward to your visits on your card shopping days and we always enjoyed the articles in the paper. David “Sherlock” Rush, we miss you already.

I met David when I began working in the Local History Room of the Decatur Public Library. In fact in his weekly visit, he gave me many clues on how to find information for our patrons. His knowledge of Decatur was unsurpassed. I truly enjoyed the time I spent with David in these weekly visits. We just had a good time sharing thoughts and information on many things. I am so glad that he was part of my life. He will be missed.
David,I remember (vaguely) the day you were born. There are lots of happy memories of family visits while we were growing up. As adults every year we got a Christmas card from “Cousin David”. I am not sure we were that faithful. In our so called golden years we finally figured out how to use the phone. I enjoyed our conversations and your stories. Thanks for sharing your Decatur Herald articles. You could take an ordinary event and turn it into a great story. We enjoyed them all.Cousin Charlie
My husband Steve and I loved it when we would run into David and be able to chat with him. And a short chat always turned into a long conversation, because he was such an interesting man with so much knowledge! We will miss those visits. Rest in peace, dear David. You will be greatly missed.
Oh, David, how I wish I could have said goodbye to you once more. You will be greatly missed all over Decatur. Rest In Peace, dear friend.
