David Lee Smith's Obituary
David L. Smith, 71, of Oreana, IL passed into the kingdom of heaven on January 13, 2017 after a brief stay at Hickory Point Christian Village, Forsyth, IL.
David was born on July 23, 1945 in Argenta, IL, the son of Ellen June Smith. He married Karen Lotzgesell on September 1, 1962. He was a member of Forsyth Baptist Church.
After serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, he worked as a union brick mason for 40 years. David’s interests included restoring cars, sports, travel and reading about history. He was an animal and nature lover who enjoyed his pets as well as feeding the neighborhood birds and squirrels.
Surviving are his wife, Karen, son Scott (Tanja Mahner) of Bloomington, and his Aunt Mary (Smith) Bussell of Decatur. He was preceded in death by his mother, sister, Barbara Kay Smith, son, Jeffrey David Smith and Aunt Irene Smith.
In honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place. A private memorial service for the family will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to your local animal shelter/rescue or Forsyth Baptist Church. The family would like to thank the staff at the Decatur VA Clinic for their care and kindness.
