Denny Lee Sumpter's Obituary
Denny Lee Sumpter, 81, of Decatur, IL, passed away at 11:00 P.M. on Wednesday (12-24-2025) at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Denny was born on October 18, 1944, in Decatur, IL, the son of Everett Lee Sumpter and Ida Rose Ella (Matherly) Sumpter.
He worked at Firestone here in Decatur, IL, for many years. Denny loved horses and training them throughout the years. He loved his family very much, teaching his girls everything he knew.
Denny is survived by his children: Tracy Deniel Sumpter and significant other Dewey Sharp of Stonington, IL; Michelle Harvey and husband Christopher L. of Moweaqua, IL; Sheri Sue Sumpter of Decatur, IL; and Denise Lynn Sumpter of Decatur, IL; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one brother Larry Sumpter of Decatur, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Pearlie Jean Adcock.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday (12-30-2025) at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home with a visitation one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will follow the funeral service at Graceland Cemetery Decatur, IL.
