Diane Thomas' Obituary
Diane Thomas of Decatur, IL passed away on February 28, 2023
Diane was born in Kansas City, Kansas on September 28, 1949 to Kenneth Greenwell and Josephine Verdusco. She was a hairdresser for many years working in salons, out of her home, or taking her services to people who couldn’t leave their homes. After earning her Associates degree in Arts at Richland Community College later in life she worked in the offices there and as a tutor for special needs students. She was also a certified Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and helped be a voice for children who were removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. She fiercely loved God and “her boys.” She spent many hours working in the kitchen at First Christian Church, making crafts to give to others, and sending out love and encouragement to those in need.
Diane is survived by her brothers, Mike Greenwell (Marcia), Danny Greenwell (Carolyn), and Ken Greenwell (Rosemary), sister Della Purdy (Tom); her sons Ken Long (Linda), Don Long (Becky), and Chad Thomas; grandchildren Cody, Shelby, Deven (Claire), Zachary, Brayden, Keaton, and Bentley and 6 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in the death by her parents, her brother Larry, and her son Keith.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring and details will be on her social media pages. Memorial gifts can be sent to the Marfan Foundation https://marfan.org/donate/.
