Donald D. "Don" Davis' Obituary
Donald D. "Don" Davis, 76, of Decatur, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012 in his home with his family at his side.
Mr. Davis was born December 14, 1935, in Decatur, son of Charles F. and Charlotte A. (Knapp) Davis. A U.S. Army veteran, Don worked as an elementary teacher in Northbrook, IL and Coronado, CA before moving back to Decatur where he went to work in sales at Burks Pumps before retiring in 1997. He was a graduate of Stephen Decatur High School, received a Bachelor's in Business Administration from Millikin University and a Masters in Education from San Diego State University. Don was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Westminster Presbyterian Church, Golden K Kiwanis, and American Legion Post 105. He loved playing golf, traveling and spending time with his granddaughters. Don married Sandy/Susie Smith May 11, 1963 in Decatur.
Surviving is his wife, Sandy/Susie of Decatur; children: Gregory A. (wife, Tammy) Davis and Susan "Leslie" (husband, Landon) Baine of Decatur; granddaughters: Madison and Grace Baine of Decatur; brothers: Charles Davis of Moweaqua and Bill (wife, Pat) Davis of Decatur; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 22, 2012 from 6 to 8 pm in the Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Services celebrating his life will be 2 pm Monday at the funeral home. Private entombment will take place in Graceland Cemetery at a later date. Memorials: Golden K Kiwanis Scholarship Fund.
