Donald R. Johnson's Obituary
Decatur-Donald R. Johnson Sr., 97, passed quietly from this Earth to be with his Heavenly Father and Savior on Thursday, December 25, 2014.
Donald was born December 18, 1917 in Decatur, the son of Carl Rudolph and Edna L. Johnson. He married Maxine Beck July 30, 1940 and after sixty-four years of marriage she preceded him in death October 26, 2004. Donald retired from Marvel-Schebler in 1978. He was dedicated to his profession and someone who believed in doing it right the first time. Prior to encountering health problems he always enjoyed many outdoor activities. Most of all, he loved his automobiles, especially the fast. Even as he aged, he loved to show pictures and tell stories about his Ferrari Monza which he raced for several years in the 1960’s.
Surviving is his son Don R. Johnson Jr. and wife Judy of Mt. Zion, grandchildren Michelle Schulz and husband Steve of Normal and Tammy Dargan and husband Marty of Chicago, and great-grandchildren Paul, Laurel, Matthew, and Anna,
The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Fritz and the personnel at Glenwood in Mt. Zion and the Hickory Point Christian Village for all the care for so many years.
A memorial service to celebrate Donald’s life will 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1 Bachrach Court, Decatur. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
