Donald O. McGinnis' Obituary
Decatur-Donald 'Corky' McGinnis, 81, of Decatur, passed away at 10:56 p.m. Monday, April 2, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital.
Graveside services to celebrate Donald's life will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2012 at Graceland Cemetery.
Donald was born March 3, 1931 in Decatur, the son of Roy and Ruth (McWilliams) McGinnis. A life long resident of Decatur he was born at 3200 McArthur Road and never lived more than three blocks from his childhood home.
He worked as the manager for the meat department at Krogers retiring after forty-five years of service. Donald and his wife were foster parents for DCFS from 1968-2009 fostering hundreds of children. He was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses Westside Congregation. He was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed gardening. He married Barbara Ruth Edwards May 20, 1951. They had nearly fifty-three years of marriage before she passed away April 16, 2004.
He leaves behind his sons Matt, David and wife Wendy, and Curtis McGinnis, and Mario McGee, daughters Terri Jordan and husband Harold, Connie Marshall, Kelly Janes and husband Joe, and Erin McGinnis, grandchildren Kenneth, Tiffany, Donald-James, Lee, Connor, Ryan, Sarah, Whitney, Chelsea, David, and Quentin, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, granddaughters Bethany and Heather, and great-granddaughter Destinee.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Caeceres, Dr. Baumberger, and the 6th floor staff at St. Mary's Hospital.
