Donald Ganes Owens' Obituary
Decatur-Donald Ganes Owens, 81, of Decatur, passed away at 2:35 p.m. December 14, 2009 at Decatur Memorial Hospital with his family by his side. He fought a long battle with cancer.
Services to celebrate Don’s life will be 11 a.m. Friday, December 18, 2009 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with Pastor Charles Watkins officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family requests casual attire. Interment with Military Honors and “Flight Home” Ceremony will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Christian Church or Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois. Don was born August 27, 1928 in Raymond, Illinois the son of Russell G. and Reika F. (Specht) Owens. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army with the 106th Tank Battalion from 1948-1952 in the Korean War. He worked at Illinois Bell in building maintenance retiring after twenty six years of service. He was a member of Central Christian Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his grandson Josh. He married Rae E. Thompson September 15, 1950 in Springfield.
He leaves behind Rae his beloved wife of over fifty-nine years, grandsons; Joshua M. Robbins of Decatur and Daniel J. Owens, brother; Ross V. Owens of Rochester, sister; Bertie L. Siebert of Springfield, and several nieces and nephews.
He was greeted in heaven by his parents, son; Donald K. Owens, daughter; Kathryn E. Robbins, and brother; Bryce Owens.
The family is so grateful for the loving care of his doctors and staff, and DMH Nurses and Hospice.
