Donald E. Roethe's Obituary
Donald E. Roethe, 74 of Decatur, passed away at 2:20 pm on Thursday, March 3, 2011 in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Services to celebrate Don’s life will be held at 2 pm Monday, March 7, 2011 in the Chapel of Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home conducted by Chaplain Karla Thornton. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 Sunday evening at the funeral home. Interment with military rites by the Macon County Honor Guard will be in Fairlawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Don was born on June 22, 1936 in Kenney, the son of Dean and Cora (Owens) Cromwell. Don owned and operated Roethe Disposal for many years. He was an umpire and loved all sports. Don also worked as a funeral assistant for Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home for many years. He served his country in the Army during the Korean War. Don married Rose Mary Bateson on April 10, 1963 in Clinton.
Surviving are his wife Rose of over 47 years, children- Rick Roethe and companion Tammy Willhoite of Pontiac, Teresa Roethe and companion Mike Edge of Bloomington, Brenda Horve and husband Paul of Macon, Stacy Mezo and husband Pat of Dupo and Jason Roethe of Decatur, two sisters- Connie Smith and husband Richard of Clinton and Ruth Ann Harvey and husband Don of Clinton, twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his parents.
