Donald G. Tarvin's Obituary
Donald G. Tarvin, 91, of Decatur joined the love of his life, Eleanor Tarvin, when God took him by the hand and lead him home on July 8, 2019 at Heritage Health of Mt. Zion with his children by his side.
Donald was born to Goldie (Seats) and Dean Tarvin on January 28, 1928.
Don played the trumpet in high school and then in an orchestra playing on weekends at the Orlando Hotel and various venues.
Donald enlisted and served as a seaman first class on the USS Gordius in the Navy from 1946 to 1948 where he was awarded the Victory World War II medal.
Upon returning from the Navy he married the one and only love of his life Eleanor McCauley on March 11, 1948.
Donald worked for the Signal Depot for ten years and then joined Wagner Castings Company from which he retired after 38 years of dedicated service.
Donald leaves to cherish his memory, daughter Deborah (Michael) Queen, son Thomas (June) Tarvin and daughter Kim Tarvin all of Decatur. Grandsons Jason (Tricia)Queen, Timothy (Amanda) Tarvin, Stephen (Abby) Golladay, granddaughters Krystal (Anthony)Buscher, Kandy Tarvin, Brooke (Julie) Golladay and Jennifer (Nathan) Hoenes along with 13 great grandchildren.
His parents, sister Imodene Elam, wife Eleanor ;one daughter, Nancy Tarvin and two grandsons preceded him in death.
The family wishes to thank his “girls” Emily and Taylor and the rest of the wonderful staff of Heritage Health of Mt. Zion for their excellent care and wonderful compassion.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Donald Tarvin will be 12 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2019, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday before the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Heritage Health Activities 1225 Woodland Drive, Mt. Zion, IL 62549.
