Donald Dean Walker's Obituary
Donald Dean Walker, 87, of Niantic, Illinois, passed away November 24, 2024, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Donald was born in Decatur, Illinois, on December 15, 1936, the son of Haven and Ruth (Chenoweth) Walker. He married Eleanor Berbaum on May 28, 1961, in Cerro Gordo, Illinois. Donald was an electrician with IBEW 146 for 34 years and worked for Bodine Electric from 1967 to 1991. He loved farming, fishing, and big game hunting. After retiring, he raised quail and pheasants to hunt with his friends and family. Farming with his partner Don Brunner was another source of enjoyment for him.
Don attended Niantic United Methodist Church. He adored his wife and treasured their 63 years together. He loved his family and cherished the time he spent with them. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren gave him great joy, and he took great pride in raising the next generation of hunters.
Don is survived by his wife Eleanor of Niantic, IL; sons Brian K. (Lorrie) Walker of Geneva, IL and Steven R. (Tanya) Walker of Springfield, IL; brother Roy C. Walker of Decatur, IL; sisters Alice Bray of Decatur, IL, and Maybelle J. Williams of Chillicothe, IL; grandchildren Colton (Katie) Walker, Jeslynn (Justin) Ancona, Jake (Abby) Ballenger, Anna Ballenger, Tyler (Elise) Walker, Chase (Lynzey) Walker, and Grace (Evan) Roberts; great-grandchildren Micah, Wyatt, Olivia, Charlie Ann, Owen, and Jack; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; brothers William “Red” Walker, Haven “Shorty” Walker Jr., and Joe Walker; and sister Betty Tolladay.
Visitation for Donald will be from 4pm to 6pm on Friday, November 29, at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10am on Saturday, November 30, also at the funeral home. Entombment at Graceland Cemetery will follow the service. Memorials may be directed to Niantic United Methodist Church or donor's choice.
