Donna Lee Strong's Obituary
Donna Lee Strong, 87, of Decatur, passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2015, in McKinley Court.
Donna was born January 28, 1928 in Sullivan, IL, the daughter of Lloyd A. and Thelma D. (Wright) McWilliams. She graduated from Oklahoma College for Women with a Bachelor of Arts in speech therapy. Donna taught for Macon-Piatt Special Education District for 30 years. After her retirement, she worked part-time for the Lutheran School Association in the special education department. Donna was a member of Central Christian Church in Decatur. She was an avid knitter and reader. Donna enjoyed being outdoors gardening, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Donna married Judson E. Strong on March 7, 1953 in Sullivan, IL, and they shared 45 wonderful years together. Judson preceded her in death on April 17, 1998.
Donna leaves behind her daughters, Angela (Michael) Jackson of Fountain Inn, SC; Laura (Brett) Wittig of Oakwood, IL; brother, Paul (Janet) McWilliams of Sullivan, IL; grandchildren, Matt (Meridith) Jackson; David (Tiffany) Jackson; Christopher Jackson; Carolyn Jackson; Melissa (Fred) Saurmann; Christopher (Diana) Strong; BJ (Becca) Wittig; Jessica (Mark) Ellis; and eight great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and son Douglas Strong.
Services to celebrate Donna’s life will be 10 a.m. Friday, November 20, 2015, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Thursday, November 19, 2015, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials in memory of Donna may be made to Central Christian Church.
