Dora C. Escobar's Obituary
On November 19, 2018, Dora C. Escobar went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at Beaufort Memorial Hospital in South Carolina with her family by her side.
Dora was born on July 25, 1937. She was originally from Decatur, IL and resided in Florida for 34 years. Dora spent her last year with Brian and Carmen Pirtle, daughter and son-in-law in Beaufort, SC where she resided at the time of her passing.
Dora graduated from Lake View High School. She went on to get her LPN and worked in Decatur at various nursing homes and DMH and St. Mary’s Hospitals. She was a Brownie Leader. In Florida, she was involved in many organizations such as, Nurses for Christ, Kiwanis, Church events and WMA. She retired from the VA Hospital in Gainsville, FL in 1996 after 12 years of service.
She was a breast cancer survivor from May 20, 2005 to May 2018. She survived a horrible car accident in 1994.
She was preceded in death by her husband Rudy V. Escobar of 21 years of marriage and preceded in death by her first marriage to Daryl Keefer of 5 years of marriage. She was the loving daughter of Eva Gertrude Ragsdale and Cecil Osborne Sr. And step father Ernest J. Eckart. Dear mother of Kenneth E. Keefer, Michigan; Christina Escobar Leigh (Richard), Carmen Escobar Pirtle (Brian), Corina Escobar Cravens (James); grandchildren: Nichole R. Huddleston, Richard Leigh Jr, Christopher Leigh (Annette), Chela Wilson, James Mendenall (Melissa), Joseph and Jesse Menter. She is survived by her loving sisters Polly Hoover, Decatur, IL and Ronnie McQueen (Ron) and step brother Larry Eckart, Decatur, IL.
She is preceded in death by her brother and sister Cecil Osborne Janet E. Larson, 6 step brothers and 3 step sisters, great-granddaughter Celia Ann Wilson and her faithful companion, “Chance”.
The family would like to give special thanks to the ICU staff at Beaufort Memorial hospital in South Carolina for their outstanding service to our mother and the family.
The family will receive friends at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home, 2091 N. Oakland Ave., Decatur, IL 62526. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until noon with funeral service to begin at noon on Saturday, December 1, 2018. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.
