Doris Berta Rice's Obituary
Decatur-Doris Berta (Arnold) Rice, loving wife, mother, sister, and friend, 74, of Decatur, formerly of Heidelberg, Germany, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 16, 2017 in her home.
Doris was born June 24, 1943 Heidelberg, Germany, the daughter of George and Barbara Arnold. She immigrated to the United States in 1964. On February 22, 1964 she married Francis Rice, whom she met while he was stationed in Germany as a U.S. Army soldier. Together, they built a life in Decatur and raised two sons, Daniel and Thomas. Doris was a beautician in Germany then operated her own cleaning company in Decatur. She enjoyed bowling, music, traveling, shopping, and spending time with her family and friends. Doris was a wonderful cook and hostess who welcomed all who came to her home with open arms.
Doris is survived by her husband Francis, sons Daniel (Sue) Rice of Decatur and Thomas (Sarah) Rice of Decatur, brother-in-law Thomas Howard Rice of Decatur, sisters Ilse and Crista of Heidelberg, Germany, as well as many loving family members and friends in both Germany and the United States.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter Savannah Kathryn Rice.
Services to celebrate Doris’ life will be 2:30 PM Friday, September 22, 2017 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be for one hour prior to services. Private burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to DMH Hospice.
