Decatur-Dorothy Mae Abel Shockley, 90, of Decatur, passed away at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, September 07, 2010 at Decatur Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.
Services to celebrate Dorothy's life will be at 2 p.m. Friday, September 10, 2010 in the chapel of Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with Pastor Aaron Monts officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Interment with the 'Flight Home' Ceremony will be in Graceland Cemetery. Dorothy was born December 9, 1919 in Hammond, Illinois, the daughter of John and Zora (Watts) Bandy. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She married Clyde Abel February 10, 1941. He preceded her in death February 4, 1984. She then married Loyd Shockley May 14, 1990. He preceded her in death November 9, 2003.
She leaves behind her daughters; Mary (William) Cowell of Decatur, Jean Shewmaker of Decatur, Anna (Ron) Thompson of Decatur, and Janet (Jim) Monts of Imperial, Missouri, brother; Lyle Bandy of Decatur, sisters; Shirley (Jack) Mahan of Decatur, Cleo Nickell of Hammond, Illinois, and Pat (Rich) Fleming of Decatur, nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, step-daughters; Leota Corinne Straugh of Little Falls, New York and Kathryn Jean (Shelby) Martin of Oxford, Georgia, and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
She was greeted in Heaven by her parents, both husbands, and four brothers.
The family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of DMH 5100 and 6400, Dr. G. Patel, Dr. Atluri, and Dr. Esparaz.
