Dorothy A Burrous' Obituary
Dorothy Allene Burrous, 90, of Decatur, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017, at her daughter’s home, with her family by her side.
Dorothy was born November 28, 1926, in Taylorville, to Preston Allen and Alberta Lucy (Hayward) Lyons. She married Donald Lee Burrous, Sr. on November 29, 1945, in Atkinson, KS. He passed away September 6, 1982. Dorothy loved bowling on leagues and crocheting blankets for family and friends.
She is survived by her three children, Sandra K (Larry Lee) Hott of Decatur, Richard A. Burrous of Oregon City, OR and Donald Lee (Linda) Burrous, Jr. Of Fort Collins, CO; seven grandchildren, Lisa Elmore, Alyson Clemons, Tonia (Ryan) Oliver, Brian (Robin) Hott, Michael (Angie) Hott, Terry (Kim) Hott and Brandon (Julie) Hott; 26 great-grandchildren; 31 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert E. (Brenda) Lyons of Decatur; and her best friend, Mary Ann Boyd of Decatur.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Dale Lyons; and three sisters, Katherine Besalke, Mary Helen Brubeck and Ruth Frakes.
The family would like to thank DMH Hospice, DMH Cancer Care nurses and staff, Dr. Perry Guaglianone and Dr. Keith Smith.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Dorothy Burrous will be 10 a.m. Thursday, October 12, 2017, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with Chaplain Jan Dial, officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or American Cancer Society.
