Dorothy Kaufman's Obituary
Dorothy L. Printy Kaufman, 88, of Decatur, passed away Monday, July 14, 2014 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Dorothy was born March 3, 1926 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Eston Merle and Azalia Printy. Dorothy was a midyear graduate of Decatur High School Class of 1944. She worked for the Millikin National Bank. After her and Fred raised their family she became self-employed and owner of the Mink Kosmetique.
On November 9, 1984, she was diagnosed with advanced stage of malignant melanoma. This was the beginning of her long battle for survival with the Mayo Clinic calling her the “Miracle Lady.” She gave all the credit to God, and was encouraged by her husband, family, friends, and church. She was a witness and walking testimony up until she went home to Heaven. She was also known for having a big heart, and for helping and praying for others. She loved talking on the phone with family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memories her daughters, Ruth (William) Bork of Decatur, IL; Nancy (Kevin) Kistler of Lafayette, IN; sons, Fred R. (Kim) Kaufman III of Nashville, TN; Tom (Tresne) Kaufman of Decatur; Bill (Denise) Kaufman of Decatur; Jim Kaufman all of Decatur; sisters, Betty Nowlin of Florida; Francis (Jack) Evans of Decatur; Peggy (Dave) Shulke of Decatur; brother-in-law, Bob Roberts of Decatur; sisters-in-laws, Mary Lamb of California; Ruth Younger of Decatur; Evelyn Kaufman of Decatur; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and lots of very special nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Fred, in-laws, infants son, sisters Helen Roberts, Mary Jane Farris, eight brother-in-laws, two sister-in-laws, one niece, and two nephews.
Funeral service celebrating Dorothy’s life will be 11:00 AM Friday, July 18, 2014 in Resurrection Life Church, 1085 W. McKinley Avenue, Decatur, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to C/O Kaufman family.
