My heartfelt condolences to the immediate and extended family of Dorothy "Dot" Sternaman. I met Dot not too long after Ellen (Kays) and I began our relationship. We visited Dot and Carl in their home where all of those legendary holiday gatherings took place. Dot had the gift of hospitality - I remember she made a delicious lunch for us and immediately put me at ease. I didn't feel like a stranger in her house; she made me feel like family. I deeply appreciated that.
In the years since, we would occasionally get a card from her, and it always made our week. We so enjoyed her newsy letters, filling us in on what was happening in her life and with the family.
I'm so glad we had the chance to visit with her last year, at her independent living apartment in Oconomowoc, WI. She was her same wonderful self - gracious, funny, interested in what was going on in your life. They say that you may not remember what someone has said to you, but you'll never forget how they made you feel. Dot had the gift of making people feel loved and special. I will treasure her and her memory always!
In sympathy,
Beth Strausser
