Decatur: Dorothy Wilma Suter 90 0f Decatur, passed away May 16, 2009 at Imboden Creek.
Funeral Liturgy will be Friday May 22, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home with Father Rick Weltin officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service on Friday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. The family requests memorials be made to: St. Thomas Catholic Church 2160 N. She was born October 2, 1918 in Akron, Ohio to George and Myrtle ( Hanner ) Syrcle. She grew up in Barry, Illinois where she met her future husband John E. Suter. They where united in marriage on December 25, 1937 and were married for almost 60 years. After living in Barry, Glen Ellyn, Decatur, and Atwood the Suter Family moved back to Decatur in 1950, and Dorothy worked in various capacities in the field of insurance. She was a long time member of the parish council of St. Thomas Catholic Church, the board of directors for Catholic Charities, the women’s auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus and the Daughters of the American Revolution. In addition, after retirement she served as the secretary for the Harristown Fire Protection District from 1984 to 2000.
Dorothy Wilma was preceded in death by her husband John and her parents. She is survived by her son Jack and wife Jane Suter of Springfield and Naples, Fl. Her daughters: Sue and husband Don Mattingly of St. Charles, Mo. and Mary Ann Tilton of St. Charles, IL. She was also blessed with 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
